Winter Driving Tips From McCloskey Motors In Colorado Springs!
The Colorado winter is here and in full swing! Here in Colorado, we have our share of sun-filled days, but we also have a lot of days where all you’ll see is snow and clouds. It is important to know that even though it might not seem bad the roads can quickly go from okay to unsafe! Here are some tips for driving in the snow!
4 Wheel Drive is not 4 Wheel Stop
A lot of times the people you see stuck on the side of the road have a 4×4 or all-wheel drive system. But that is exactly what got them there, Just because your car will move easier in the snow with 4×4 or all-wheel drive doesn’t mean it will stop easier. So be sure no matter what your drive to give people enough room and not to get to quick for your own good! That car looks awesome on the road, not on the side of it!
Be Aware
It is always a good idea to be aware of your surroundings when driving, in the winter however it is even more critical to your safe travel! Not only can people around you make a mistake that could affect you. But also you need to aware of the road and if black ice is present or could be.
Be Prepared
No one wants to think that they will be stuck but it is important to plan as if you were. Meaning being dressed for the weather and having the tools you’ll need to be comfortable or even free yourself in this situation. So it’s a good idea to have a coat, gloves, phone charged, and an emergency kit in the car at all times during the winter. If you need help knowing what to put in your kit check out our earlier blog on emergency kits.
