It’s National Pet Month! Some Quick Tips From McCloskey Motors in Colorado Springs!

We all love our furry family members and May is the month to celebrate them! So, please take and enjoy these four helpful tips to make your pets travel safer and easier!

The best place to start with National Pet Month is to talk about the history. National Pet Month is aimed at celebrating the benefits that owning a pet has brought to people’s lives and vice versa. It is recognized and celebrated annually in the UK and the USA. National Pet Month also aims to support pet adoption and to raise awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working with companion animals.

Rather than leaving Toto at home when you go out, why not give your furry friend the thrill of riding and traveling with you? To assist you with this, here are some key tips to help with pet travel.

1. Go on a trial run

As with anything, it is better to know than guess. So, before packing in the car and leaving, load your pet in the car and go on a drive that is longer than they are used to. This gives you the ability to watch your pet’s behavior before the real thing and keep an eye out for signs of anxiety or car sickness. This also allows you to try out all the pet travel accessories before the time for travel.

2. Take your pet to the Vet

Taking your pet to the Vet before travel will truly make the process quick, easy, and smooth. The last thing anyone needs on a road trip is a sick pup. Also, before traveling, ask the Vet what vaccines are needed for the area you are visiting.  This step is vital for any easy and worry-free travel.

3. Pack a First-Aid Kit

Whether your pet is big or small things do happen. so be ready for anything by having a handy first-aid kit on you at all times. Be sure the kit includes scissors, tweezers, band-aids, antibiotic cream, and so on. Traveling with even a basic first-aid kit can be life-saving to your wallet and to your dog’s life.  It may seem unnecessary to some, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

4. Get an I.D Tag

Be sure that if your pet walks off they can be returned to you by having a pet I.D tag on the pet at all times. This should have basic information such as the pets name, your name and phone number, and any important information about the pet. This small tag could be the difference between finding a lost dog and never seeing one again.
